Rain Songs: Barkha Bairan/Barkha Rani

A song from "Sabak" (1973) today that has two versions, one in female voice and another in male voice. The former one sung by Suman Kalyanpur is much sweeter--with  different words--, while the latter in Mukesh's voice is quite ordinary. The leading lady with Shatrughan Sinha is his wife, Poonam. Coincidentally, the lyricist-music director were a husband-wife team too, though they separated later.

Singers: Suman Kalyanpur/Mukesh
Lyrics: Sawan Kumar
Music: Usha Khanna

Her Story: Proposing!

For the first time since starting this blog, I had a bit of hesitation before deciding on a song, because musically this is not in the same class as most songs posted earlier. But I picked it because it is apt for the situation in which our story is right now. It will soon be time for our young couple to tie the knot. The journey towards that step begins with this duet from "Souten" (1983). Shot on location in Mauritius, this song was very popular at its time. The film featured Tina Munim in one of her memorable roles before she gave it all up to become Mrs. Anil Ambani.

Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar
Lyrics: Sawan Kumar
Music: Usha Khanna
