Presenting a song from a Basu Chatterjee film, "Tumhare Liye" (1978) today. This was one of his lesser-known films. Based on the theme of reincarnation, it featured Sanjeev Kumar and Vidya Sinha in the lead roles. This high-pitched solo was the more popular number from the film.

A beautiful dance number by one of the most gorgeous dancers in Hindi films. It is Waheeda Rehman in "Mujhe Jeene Do"(1963). Sahir Ludianvi's lyrics, Jaidev's composition, Lata Mangeshkar's voice and Waheeda's grace have come together to create this lovely audio-visual experience. Today's song from "Maan Jaiye" (1972) is all about the rains, but has been shot at a time when the sun was shining at its brightest and there was no trace of rain clouds anywhere in sight. However, it is a beautiful composition by Jaidev. Wonder why it remained largely unknown.

When you think of the music from "Prem Parbat" (1973), the first song that comes to mind is "Yeh dil aur unki nigahon ke saaye". That was a beautiful melody indeed, so popular that it overshadowed other songs from that film. Listen to this gem and enjoy. Jan Nisar Akhtar, the lyricist was a prominent Urdu poet who wrote for Hindi films too, but for today's generation, it might be more relevant to say that he was the father of Javed Akhtar, and the grandfather of Farhan and Zoya Akhtar.

Weddings are grand affairs. I will be posting some wedding songs in the days to come. When it comes to a wedding in the family, we Indians tend to go overboard. Hindi films are no different. The ceremony has been portrayed in so many films, in so many different ways, that I have a lot to choose from. The songs that I have picked are representative of what goes on during an Indian wedding, and they are not in any particular order. There could be an overlap or repetition of some of the rituals. But, it sure is going to be fun. So, be a part of the celebrations and enjoy the next few posts.
Today's song is from the classic dacoit-drama "Mujhe Jeene Do" (1963). This is a beautiful song and the wedding is taking place in Waheeda Rehman's imagination.
Trivia: The film was shot in Chambal valley in the Bhind-Morena region of Madhya Pradesh under police protection. It was a huge success. It was India's official entry at the 1964 Cannes Film Festival.

What both of them have to say, couldn't possibly have been said better than this. Notice the hint of smile on Sadhana's face from 2.10 to 2.20, wonderfully matched by Asha Bhosle by bringing a suitable lilt in her voice in that fleeting moment.
