Saawan Songs: Saawan Ke Din Aaye

Many great personalities contributed in the making of "Bhumika" (1977), a film inspired by Marathi stage and screen actress of the 1940s Hansa Wadkar's memoirs, Sangtye Aika. Smita Patil gave an excellent performance in the role of the protagonist. Shyam Benegal was the director. Naseeruddin Shah, Amol Palekar, Anant Nag, Amrish Puri, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Om Puri were part of the cast. Girish Karnad and Pandit Satyadev Dubey wrote the screenplay and dialogue respectively. A beautiful duet from this film today. The clip with the full song does not have the video from the film, while a slightly shorter version of the song is with the actual visuals. So posting both the clips.

Singers: Preeti Sagar, Bhupinder

Rain Songs: Ghir Ghir Aayi Badariya Kaari

Listen to a very beautiful song based on classical music today. It is from Shyam Benegal's critically acclaimed film "Sardari Begum"(1996) that won National Awards in several categories. Noted classical vocalist Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar has lent her sonorous voice to this lovely composition. Posting the full song without the video from the film. The clip from the film shows only a part of the number.

Rain Songs: Ghir Aayi Kaari Ghata Matwali

"Junoon" (1978) was a Shyam Benegal period classic based on Ruskin Bond's "A Flight Of Pigeons". Set around the rebellion of 1857, it tells the story of a Nawab and two Anglo-Indian ladies--a mother-daughter duo--beautifully. Listen to this lovely song from this film today.

Singers: Asha Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle
Lyrics: Yogesh Praveen
Music: Vanraj Bhatia

The above clip has the popular version of the song, but the video is not from the film. Here is a video from the film with a slower version of the song, and an English song in the voice of Jennifer Kendall "Come live with me and be my love". And what an eclectic mix of very talented women on the screen, Sushma Seth, Deepti Naval, Nafisa Ali, Ismat Chughtai and Jennifer Kendall!
