Costume Drama: Tu Mere Saamne Hai

Presenting a romantic solo from "Suhagan" (1964) today. It is a family drama starring Guru Dutt and Mala Sinha. David, Feroz Khan, Nazir Hussain, Deven Verma, Om Prakash and Leela Chitnis are part of the cast. Mohammad Rafi excels in sounding slightly intoxicated, especially for this song. Very apt and meaningful lyrics too!

Singer: Mohammad Rafi
Lyrics: Hasrat Jaipuri
Music: Madan Mohan

  1. One of my favourite Rafi songs. Again the sensual tone of Rafi lifts the song. Enjoyed the audio version several times before. Alas did not enjoy the visuals on youtube just now (1st time view) as I am not a fan of Mala Sinha plus Guru Dutt in my mind has this image of a serious intellectual - didn't fit into the song or the scene. I could be wrong as I haven't seen the movie

I read somewhere that the lyricist got inspiration for this song when he saw a woman in her balcony with her pallu fluttering in the wind (apparently he was on his way to somewhere when he spotted the woman who was a total stranger).
